Discovering Helsinki during sun and storm

Discovering Helsinki during sun and storm 4

On my journey to Helsinki I was surprised to experience a mixture of rain, snow and sun. Very fine rain, like drizzle, fell from clouds hanging low after I took the passage with a ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki.

After checking in I started to explore the town, by typical wet and cold nordic weather, including gusts of wind. Impressed by the city I made my way through the town, crossing the Helsinki Cathedral with it‘s stunning view to the south harbor.

I´m walking down the steps from the Cathedral plateau with heavy snow. A short detour to the old market hall of Helsinki suits me, to dry my wet hair and cold shoes.

After having a hot chocolate and some snacks we decided to spend the rest of the day at the coast. Where we will go isn´t clear; we decided spontanously to walk along the harbor until we reach a small island in front of Helsinki.

We left the Uspenski Cathedral behind us and it took us quiet some time until we are out of town following a small road through hills along the water up to a bridge. On the island I took the time to sit down on the rocks, in front of the rough sea, while the weather is slowly getting better.

The next morning I woke up and realized, that the weather completely changed, so that I decided to go back to the spots I have seen yesterday, to shoot the same pictures again. I wanted to see how different each picture would look like with sunshine compared to the stormy weather the day before.

Again and again I´m fascinated how the weather can influence the mood of a picture and love to share these moments with you.

Wow, was für ein Unterschied zwischen den Bildern! Da glaubt man kaum, dass das am selben Fleck ist! Von Helsinki würd ich ja liebend gern noch mehr hören, da war ich noch nie 🙂 Liebe Grüße, Kathi
