Cities with a long history always had a huge attraction on me when it´s about planning my next travel destinations. It´s the amazing mixture of the past with modern influences that turn many towns into special popular sights.
Even though I am usually quickly fascinated by different cities, I distinguish between those metropols that I like and others, who captivate and enchant me.
After waiting a long time for my visa, I took the next plane to Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Even though Moscow already surprised me with a confusing fascination, I was totally blown away by Saint Petersburg.
Buildings from the time of the tsars, churches with their playful facades and a fortress in front of the town go hand in hand with modern restaurants and clubs. It´s exactly this combination of history and modern age, that makes Saint Petersburg special.
I was there in April and had the pleasure to discover the city during the time when the season changed from winter to spring. I enjoyed the heat of the sun while ice floes were floating down the river; it was a wonderful experience.
One of my last stops during my stay in town was a visit of the Hermitage. First I felt intimidated by the impressive size and beauty of the building. The entrance is located in the middle of the Hermitage, so that you enter the iron gate on the main entrance like the tsar family did decades ago.
The connection of this building with an art fair is a brilliant idea. On the forecourt you can get a feeling of the old times by watching the horse-drawn carriages and actors in garments that create a time journey to the times on which the tsar family was present here. I decided to shoot an outfit in front of the Hermitage.
The value of Saint Petersburg as a bridge between the modern era and cultural importance of the town was my reason to shoot this outfit in front of the Hermitage.
