Picking the right means of transport is something necessary for every tourist in Amsterdam. Beeing jammed in full streets and paying high prices for parking in the middle of the city is not the best way to start a trip through Amsterdam.
Some may think it will be smart to go on bike while spending some days in town. Me too I had this idea the first time I was here and noticed pretty soon that there are certain biker rules I’ve never heard about. I was close to crash into other people, cars and canals a few times, because I was simply unable to deal with the bicycle traffic. Finally I decided to discover Amsterdam by foot.
Since my first day I found some spots and places I totally fell in love with and visit it again each time I´m back. It’s not special buildings like in Venice or Rome but more the wonderful and inspiring combination of different factors like canals, trees and boats that attracts my attention.
Running around the whole day on vacation I definetly need my time to relax pick some food and create new plans for my trip. During my last stay in Amsterdam I found a wonderful store called Metropolitan. The store is located at Warmoesstraat 135 and offers a collection of wonderful sweets. Coming up the street I noticed an amazing smell of popcorn and caramel.
I step into a sugar wonderland and see buckets full of colorful ice cream, while fresh fruits are covered on a chocolate fountain. The smell of fresh baked waffles makes me take a deep breath.
I take a seat in the middle of the store and observe tourists, that step into the store for the same reasons I did. It´s kind of funny to see the light in their eyes while discovering all types of sweets. It feels a bit like I´m captured in the fairytale Hansel and Gretel. Surrounded by Macarons in more than 30 flavours and roasted almons I have to force myself to proceed my discovery tour.
You will be in Amsterdam and would like to step by as well for a short stop at Metropolitan? No problem! Down here you will find a map where to find the sweetest temptation of Amsterdam.
