On my last trip to Spain, it was my main goal to try out as many Tapas restaurants as I could find. Since my last stay in Barcelona, I can´t get enough of these small tasty treats, especially while having a wonderful glass of wine together with friends, surrounded by the warm Mediterranean breeze.
I start my culinary journey on Ibiza, without checking out any famous tapas bars on this wonderful Balearic Island online before leaving Zurich. At the end of our first day, we decide to walk down the Marina Yacht Harbor, far away from the main party area, until we receive an insider tip.
„Bai Bai at the end of the harbor!“ is the answer to our question for the best tapas restaurant, as we ask a bar owner in front of her store. She is smiling, due to our question and answers back without thinking about it for long, so that we follow her directions.
It´s already 11 pm as we finally arrive at Bai Bai. We are surprised, because nearly each table is still filled with people. Even though it´s late the waitress welcomes us with a bright smile and a warm Hola. Glasses full of wine, lively talks, men with hats and women in dresses create a typical Mediterranean scenery.
Even though the kitchen is already closed, the friendly waitress assures us that it´s absolutely no problem to put together something delicious for us. After going through the card we quickly decided what to pick and wait for our order with a glass of Tinto Verano and dozens of priceless yachts at the harbor in front of us.
After our food is served, we quickly understand why Bai Bai was that highly recommended. Our dinner starts with an octopus, softer than I ever tasted before, on a bed of mashed potatoes, garnished with fried onions, coarse sea salt and oil.
During the following days, we come back every day and order different types of tapas like marinated slow cooked back ribs, scrambled eggs with chorizo or a plate full of croquettes. Each one is outstanding and more delicious than I´ve ever tried in any tapas restaurant before.
