After discovering Barcelona with it´s amazing buildings it was soon pretty clear, that my next stop is gonna be Lisboa. I got the first facts about the town from a tourist I met after coming back from Rio de Janeiro last year. He told me about the pretty sights of Lisboa with a bright smile and shining eyes. I couldn´t stop listening to what he told me and knew that I had to find out about what fascinated him that much.
What he told me seemed to be out of this world so that I was twisted between believing his stories and wondered if I could be as amazed as he was. Now I had the chance to explore Lisboa together with a good friend, I was pretty excited about what was real of what he told me and what was more kind of a fiction.
We arrived in Lisboa in the late afternoon and were very surprised on our way to our hostel by metro in only 20 minutes, so that we had enough time to take a first city tour that day. Of course, we did our first tour without any map, that is the way I always walk around the first day on my adventures.
It feels like the weather welcomed us with sunshine and sping tempreatures while we made our way above hills and through the small streets of the town. From time to time we stoped on small shops or restaurants to buy some fruits or to eat something and to talk to locals who always welcomed us with a bright smile, interested to find out where we are coming from. Somehow it feels like being surrounded by friends and not by strangers.
It´s this kind freedom I love about city trips and that fascinates me each time again. It seems to be impossible to get lost and even if it seems you wont find your way back to the hotel there is always someone who is willing to help you to find the right way back.
When I walk through the gate of the town, I enjoy the view of the Atlantic Ocean while a luxus liner drives along the coast and the ancient elavators, that were build to connect upper and lower town, fascinate me. At this moment I thought about what the tourist told me back on the airplane on our way to Hamburg and I really have to confess that he was right.
What a city! Even though Barcelona was already fascinating I realize that Lisboa makes me speechless. Only three flight hours away from Hamburg I promise to come back soon!
