Sometimes when I travel coincidences often lead to unanticipated pleasures. You can plan and prepare your stay in a foreign country as much as you want but sharing experiences with fellow travelers is just the best. This basic principle also applies to my tour through Russia. When we left Moscow for the train to get to Saint Petersburg, it’s been no more than 24 hours since we have booked our hostel.
Driven by the enthusiasm of a fellow traveler we met in Moscow, the decision fell on the Soul Kitchen Hostel. His description of the hostel was outstanding. So, we’re crossing our fingers when we checked availability on the hostel’s homepage. We were lucky and continued our journey through Russia reassured with a new sleeping place in Saint Petersburg.
It’s early in the morning and the streets were empty when we left the metro station in Saint Petersburg and set off for our hostel. When we arrived at the Moika embankment 62/2 app 9, we were warmly greeted by the intercom system. It’s a welcome that makes you forget our hardships on the night train.
Standing in the lobby, we were quite surprised by a spacious entrance hall with a huge couch. The walls were plastered rustic, but decorated with love. There was a chaos of color and decoration which was in perfect harmony. Everybody would love to have this entrance hall at his own house.
At first we got a little guidance tour and look into the huge kitchen with the different dishes on the wall and the old stove. The same kind of attention to the detail was given to the rooms. Each room was different, individual and beautiful. Puristic, but with love and cozyness.
The bathroom had many historic-style pictures and individual cabins for showers and toilets. In the computer room, I discovered an old wooden panel which was converted into a light bar, tables made of old doors, a Ball Chair and a giant world map in which guests could pin a flag in their homeland.
We felt home right away and agreed that this hostel is more beautiful and cozy than any other hotel or hostel in which we stayed in the past. Additionally, the staff was welcoming and it felt more like visiting friends than strangers.
If you ever plan a trip to Saint Petersburg, we recommend the Soul Kitchen Hostel to you! Please feel free to follow my recommendation. I would greatly appreciate if you could send me a picture of you at the Soul Kitchen.
That looks like my house! Thank you, I can stop feeling bad about that. LOVE your ball chair look!
And love you.
