The year 2015 is coming to an end – and I would like to take the opportunity to look back on my travel experiences. Together with some other bloggers we will show you our blog highlights under the theme blog blick. This is the moment in which I realize, how many places I have seen in such a short periode of time.
My year 2015 started with a trip to Russia. Fortunatley, I had more luck than judgement and got my visa within 5 days so that I was able to challenge the adventure Moscow. I was surprised to discover the city with beautiful and warm weather. I discovered world famous cultural attractions like the red square or the breathtaking metro stations.
After Moscow I went to Saint Peterburg on a night train. I have to confess that I wouldn´t choose the cheapest price category again, because I had to sleep with dozens of Russians in an open sleeping car. This is an unforgetable experience I would never repeat. Saint Petersburg on the other side left me speechless. The city with it´s ancient, beautiful and extraordinary buildings took me back in time to the tsarist era. At the Soul Kitchen Hostel I felt like being with friends away from home.
I left Russia from Saint Petersburg towards Tallinn on a night bus. I never really had the town on my travel list, but I was surprised by all the positive feedback friends gave me about it. Tallinn is interesting for Middle Ages fans, but has something to offer for everyone. My favorite moment and place is the view over the town. I discovered that place during one of the funniest Free Tours I´ve ever had. I even came back here twice, to see the sunrise above Tallinn.
After flying from Hamburg to Moscow, taking a train to Saint Petersburg and a night bus to Tallinn I went to Helsinki via ferry. There a mix of sun and rain were waiting for me. The town is quite small and I greatly enjoyed walking down the coast and to discover the different market places.
My next destination was Venice. Even though I came here already several times before, I always feel a certain attraction to come back. I had wonderful weather while I made my way through the town, along the canals, over hundreds of small bridges and between dense house facades. To see a sunset at the Canal Grande or to eat ice cream by looking up to the Rialto Bridge will always be something special to me. This time, I refused to go on a gondola ride and decided to visit the fish market of the city.
In the middle of the year I went to Rio de Janeiro. It´s already kind of a tradition for me to visit Rio every year again. The town has that certain something no other city in the world has to offer. On top of the Sugar Loaf, the view down from the Corcovado and the walk along the Capacabana is an outstanding experience. I am lucky to have friends in Rio, so that there is always a good reason for me to come back. Sitting on the rocks on top of Ipanema beach with a Caipirinha in my hands was one of my favorite moments this time.
After Rio de Janeiro I went on to Hong Kong. The metropolis will charm you with it’s zest for life especially in the way it connects traditional and modern elements. Under tropical conditions I spend wonderful moments at the Avenue of Stars in the daytime and at night. To go up to the Big Buddha impressed quite a lot so that I spend some hours here on top of the stairs underneath the monument. On Lantau Island I was sitting on the beach when it was raining and was watching the kite-surfers riding on the waves. Even a tour with the metro, tram or cableway turned out to be an impressive experience.
My last travel destination for 2015 was Amsterdam. Several years ago I already had the chance to visit the city and was quite impressed by the charm of the town. With the memories in my head I was able to find again all places and spots I loved during my first stay there. Surrounded by hundreds of bicycle riders, across small bridges and along the endless canals I had the pleasure to spend some days in one of the prettiest cities of Europe.
To see all the pictures makes me realize that I truely visited all these spots in 2015. Often I feel more comfortable on a plane than on earth. To share all these experiences with you is even more a pleasure to me. I can’t wait to see what 2016 has to offer.

I just got your postcard from Amsterdam. Your cards are always a thrill, and my fridge is getting harder to see! You’re finishing a PhD??? How do you have time?? And what is your area of study? I must know. I’m studying math and astronomy now, long story. Maybe if/when I get to Italy, we’ll meet in Venice/ And, babe, you come to the States and I will fly anywhere to see you. Or you can come to Chicago, and I will cook you an Italian meal that would make Baby Jesus cry.
LOVE you! Happy New Year!
Martina
